Tight Labor Market Causing Delivery Delay To Boeing’s New Air Force One – $BA $DIA

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

Reportedly, the next-generation presidential aircraft being built by Boeing may face further delays due to a tight labor market for mechanics and lower-than-expected security clearance rates. Also, the need for Boeing to switch to an alternative supplier for some interior work may pose a major schedule risk, as per a report issued by the U.S Government Accountability Office (GAO).

In 2018, Boeing received a $3.9 billion contract for two 747-8 aircraft to be delivered around 2024. The Pentagon informed that the planes are not likely to be delivered until 2026.

Air Force One is famous the world over as an airborne White House. The current aircraft has 4,000 square feet of space on three levels, including a conference room and medical suite. Further, the aircraft is designed to be able to fly in worst-case security scenarios such as nuclear war and is modified with military avionics, a self-defense system, and advanced communications.
