Reportedly, Tesla (TSLA) launched its Model S Plaid last week, the car is equipped with a 390-mile range and has the power to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than two seconds. The interior features a steering yoke instead of a wheel and an 8-inch display in the back. It also has a 17-inch center touchscreen display with charging ports in the front and rear for mobile devices.
“We’re in production and gonna deliver the first 25 cars now, and then basically should be at several hundred cars per week soon and a thousand cars per week next quarter,” stated CEO Elon Musk at the company’s Fremont, Calif., plant.
The Model S Plaid price increased by $10,000 on its website and now starts at just under $130,000. The Model S Plaid was initially supposed to be a tri-motor vehicle with Tesla’s new structural battery pack powered by its new 4680 battery cell, however, in January, the company decided to make that model the Plaid Plus, with a range of 520 miles and be marginally faster. The Model S Plaid instead became a tri-motor electric sedan with a shorter range.
Recently, Musk tweeted the company was scrapping plans to make the Plaid Plus because the Plaid was already “so good.” However, the Industry observers speculate the reason may have been a battery supply issue. Tesla stock was remained unchanged, after the announcement.
