PepsiCo Expects First Delivery Of Tesla Semi Trucks Q4/2021

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

As per reports, PepsiCo (PEP) is reportedly set to receive its first delivery of Tesla (TSLA) Semi trucks in the fourth quarter informed the beverage giant’s CEO Ramon Laguarta at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP26. However, the number of trucks to be delivered was not disclosed.

The news comes almost after four years after PepsiCo first announced it would purchase 100 Tesla Semi trucks, the largest known pre-order of the vehicle at the time. The truck production was scheduled to begin in 2019 but was delayed due to the high volume of its 4680 battery cells required, informed CEO Elon Musk. During the second-quarter earnings call in July, Tesla informed it will push the Semi production to 2022 due to the supply chain issues and the limited availability of battery cells.

“Transportation is about 10% of our overall gas emissions so it’s important and we’re working on different solutions. We replace our fleet regularly, every ten years more or less and we’re already starting to buy electric trucks actually from Tesla. I mean I don’t want to promote anybody but that’s the brand we’re using so far and we’re getting our first deliveries this Q4,” stated Laguarta.
