As per reports, Walgreen Boots Alliance (WBA) chief executive officer Roz Brewer has joined the board of VillageMD, a company focused on developing hundreds of doctor-staffed clinics & connected to Walgreens drugstores across the U.S. Brewer, as well as another Walgreens board member, Dr. David Brailer of the private equity firm Health Evolution Partners, is also on the primary care company’s board of directors. The announcement about Brewer and Brailer joining VillageMD’s board comes with Walgreens holding a 63% stake in VillageMD.
The larger investment Walgreens made last year was aimed to accelerate the opening of at least 600 Village Medical at Walgreens primary care practices in more than 30 U.S. markets by 2025 and 1,000 by 2027, with more than half of those practices in medically underserved communities.
