Walmart Looking To Hire 20k Supply Chain Workers & Raise Wages As Holiday Season Approaches

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

Reportedly, Walmart Stores, Inc. (WMT) plans to hire 20,000 workers at its supply chain division and raise wages as the busy holiday season approach anticipating higher demand. The hiring will come across part-time and full-time jobs, across more than 250 Walmart and Sam’s Club distribution centers, fulfillment centers, and transportation offices, the retailer informed.

Last year, the world’s biggest retailer also hired around 20,000 seasonal workers in its e-commerce fulfillment centers to meet the surging holiday demand. The average wage for supply chain workers would be $20.37 per hour, higher than the company’s announcement of $15.25 an hour average wage pay announced earlier in February. Walmart did not disclose its costs for the new hiring.

Pandemic-led nationwide labor shortages have raised concerns for retailers across the U.S. about not having a sufficient workforce in warehouses and stores during the holiday shopping season, also prompting them to raise wages this year.
