China Readies To Resume Flying Boeing’s 737 Max – $BA $DIA

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

As per reports, Boeing Co.’s (BA) 737 Max is expected to resume commercial flights in China starting this month. A recent operational readiness flight was conducted by Hainan Airlines on Jan. 9, showing positive signs of a return in the coming weeks. A nearly empty Max 8 belonging to Hainan Air took off from Taiyuan and touched down two hours and 52 minutes late. Hainan Air and officials at the Civil Aviation Administration of China refused to comment on the matter.

China is Boeing’s largest overseas market, and restarting flights and deliveries is critical to supporting the Chicago-based planemaker’s plans to speed production of its cash-cow jet this year. In 2019, China’s aviation regulator was the first to ground the 737 Max after it crashed twice in five months, and was among the last to sign off on Boeing’s software changes. However, more than 185 of 195 regulators globally have cleared the jetliners to fly, where Russia remains among the last holdouts.
