As per reports, Apple (AAPL) has fired an employee who encouraged and led a movement encouraging workers to come out and share their concerns about the tech giant. Janneke Parrish was working in Austin, Texas, area as a program manager for the company’s Maps service, and was fired during an internal probe after she deleted files and apps from her work devices. It is believed that the employee’s interaction with the media led to the investigation.
Parrish apparently also led the #AppleToo movement, which led to Apple employees speaking out about a lack of transparency, inconsistent pay, and other workplace issues. The #AppleToo movement is “about asking Apple to do better, to end systemic discrimination, abuse and pay inequity,” she said. Last month, Apple fired Ashley Gjovik, a senior engineering program manager, for what the company told her was a violation of corporate policies.
