Microsoft To Say Goodbye To Internet Explorer & Hello To Edge!

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

As per reports, Microsoft Corp (MSFT) will unplug its well-known browser, Internet Explorer next year as the technology giant prepares to compete with market leader Chrome with its slicker Edge browser.

Internet Explorer, launched in 1995 became the prominent browser for over a decade as it was packaged with Microsoft’s Windows operating system and was pre-installed in billions of computers. However, the browser’s popularity declined and space was taken over by Google’s Chrome in the late 2000s.

Microsoft launched the Edge browser in 2015 that runs on the same technology as the Google browser. According to web analytics firm Statcounter, Chrome has a 65% share of the global browser market, followed by Apple Inc’s Safari, with an 18% share, and Microsoft Edge has a 3% share, while Internet Explorer has a meager share of the market it once dominated.

“Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10,” the company said in a blog post.
