Reportedly, Electric Vehicle maker Tesla Inc. to start delivering China-made Model Y sport-utility vehicles (SUV) this month expanding sales in the world’s biggest car market.
China which is Tesla’s largest market after the U.S is offering huge subsidies for electric vehicles as it plans to cut down on pollution from petrol or diesel cars. The company is also looking to expand its Shanghai car factory, where it also builds its Model 3 sedans. It started exporting Model 3 vehicles to Europe, in October. Tesla is adding manufacturing capacity for EV chargers in Shanghai and also working to expand its sales and service network around the country. It sold over 20,000 vehicles in November.
As per the Chinese website, the starting price of a Model Y in China is now 339,900 yuan ($52,091.95). Tesla’s rivals in China include Volkswagen AG, BMW along with local startups such as Xpeng Inc, Nio Inc, and Li Auto Inc, which all have electric SUV models.
