Reportedly, Walmart Stores, Inc. (WMT) has added two augmented reality (AR) features to its app, one that allows customers to view furniture and home décor items in their homes before purchasing and another for shoppers to use in-store to view key product information. The feature will initially be available on iOS but is expected to roll out on Android and mobile web in the future.
The retailer informed that the in-home viewing experience will initially be available for 300 furniture and home décor items, with plans to expand its scope over the coming months. Customers will be able to check if an item will fit in their space and click a picture for use later. To access the feature, customers will click a “view in your space” banner on AR-enabled items in the Walmart app while shopping.
The new in-store AR feature will offer customers to point their mobile device cameras at store shelves to filter products based on personal preferences.
