UnitedHealthcare Introduces Eye Care Program For Children As Exposure To Digital Devices Surge In Pandemic – $UNH $DIA

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

As per reports, UnitedHealthcare is building ways to help children and adults across the country reduce their exposure to blue light and support the overall wellness of their eye health as the use of screens during the pandemic has increased remarkably. UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (UNH) is focused to help limit excessive exposure to blue light, which will reduce digital eye strain among children and adults as people spend an average of 13 hours per day on digital devices.

“Digital eye strain due in part to increased screen time is becoming a more significant issue for many Americans, including professionals working remotely and students using laptops or tablets as part of the course curriculum. We are taking a comprehensive approach to help our more than 23 million vision members and people across the country reduce their exposure to blue light, enhancing our whole-person approach to health benefits and vision care,” stated John Ryan, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Vision

Some key efforts include offering a discount of up to 20% on Dell XPS laptops equipped with embedded blue-light-blocking properties from Eyesafe®. Donations of $20,000 per school district to meet the technology needs of their students, along with screen protectors to help reduce exposure to blue light for students. School districts receiving $20,000 donation include; Cleveland Metro School District (OH), Fort Bend Independent School District (TX), Roanoke City Public Schools (VA), The School District of Palm Beach County (FL), and Minneapolis Public Schools (MN).  The school districts will also be eligible to also receive a donation of 1,000 screen filters from Eyesafe to help reduce exposure to blue light.
