McDonald’s U.K. Supplies ‘Derailed’ Due To Protest By Vegan Activists

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

Reportedly, animal rights activists have blocked supplies of an approx of 1,300 U.K. restaurants operated by McDonald’s Corporation (MCD) in an attempt to convince the fast-food giant to include an entirely plant-based menu. Around 50 Animal Rebellion protesters have blocked all four of the company’s U.K. distribution centers with trucks and bamboo structures, blocking supply.

Meat suppliers are amid intense pressure from investors and consumers as scientists raised that the industry is a major contributor to deforestation and methane emissions. Reportedly, livestock farming contributes to 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

“McDonald’s is just a symbol of a much bigger problem, the entire animal agriculture industry,” according to Animal Rebellion. “These protests happening across the country are calling out the animal agriculture industry for their part in the global climate crisis.”

Animal Rebellion allied with Extinction Rebellion, the climate occupy movement has in the past targeted offices like Cargill Inc,  an agrifood giant, and London’s historic Smithfield meat market.
