Reportedly, AT&T Inc. (T) agreed to sell its Xandr division to Microsoft (MSFT) a long-anticipated divestiture. The transaction will offer customers on Microsoft’s properties, such as MSN, access to Xandr’s marketplace for automated online advertising. The deal is valued at about $1 billion, as per sources.
AT&T has been looking for a buyer for Xandr for more than a year after giving up on becoming a major player in online ads where tech companies such as Google and Facebook rule. Starting in 2018, the name Xandr was inspired by Alexander Graham Bell and was formed from AT&T’s ad businesses including AdWorks and AppNexus. The sale is subject to regulatory review.
