Reportedly, Amgen (AMGN) has appointed S. Omar Ishrak to its Board of Directors, effective July 30, 2021. Dr. Ishrak will also serve as a member of the Board’s Corporate Responsibility and Compliance Committee and its Compensation and Management Development Committee. The Board now consists of 12 directors after Dr. Ishrak’s appointment, 11 of whom are independent.
Dr. Ishrak served as chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic plc, a global medical technology company, from 2011 to 2020. Prior to joining Medtronic, Dr. Ishrak held numerous leadership positions at GE Healthcare, serving as president and chief executive officer of GE Healthcare Systems, GE Healthcare Clinical Systems, and GE Healthcare Ultrasound in his tenure for more than 15 years with the company. Dr. Ishrak was born in Bangladesh and received his undergraduate degree and doctorate from the University of London, King’s College.
