Reportedly, United Airlines (UA) has placed orders for 200 Boeing (BA) 737 Max jets and 75 Airbus 321neo aircraft making it the biggest single order by any carrier in at least a decade. The announcement places hope on extended travel revival in the coming years. The aerospace giant has witnessed orders for its once-troubled 737 Max pick up in recent months as carriers look to revive their fleets amid an expected surge in traffic.
Boeing’s order would be an extension of United’s March order for 25 737 Max aircraft. United Airlines also has been in talks with Airbus to buy more of its long-haul single-aisle jet, A321XLR. A United order for 75 jets adds to an existing pact for 50 A321XLR aircraft.
United Airlines expects to add 25,000 union jobs, including pilots, attendants, and mechanics, for the new jets. Top 737 customer, Southwest Airlines announced to buy 34 737 Max jets for delivery in 2022. Ireland’s Ryanair, Alaskan Airlines, and Dubai Aerospace Enterprise have also ordered more than 737 Max jets.
