Reportedly, Walt Disney Company (DIS) is to design U.S. residential communities in deals with property developers, capitalizing on fans’ passion and enthusiasm for the entertainment giant’s control of detail, elaborate and fancy experiences.
Recently, Disney announced Cotino, its first residential community development with 1,900 housing units, including single-family homes and condominiums in Southern California’s Rancho Mirage. The development will also have shops and a beachfront hotel along with some neighborhoods that will be reserved for residents aged 55 and older. Disney Park designers along with the communities will develop the creative concepts for drawing inspiration from each region. Employees will run a community association that will entertain with activities, beach access, and Disney programming.
Under the new business unit, Storyliving by Disney formed by the owners of Disneyland and Disney World, the parties are looking forward to creating the master-planned communities in partnership with home builders, landowners, and developers. The Cotino project is with DMB Development. Developers and home builders will handle construction and set pricing, and Disney will handle marketing and, also operate the voluntary club.
