Reportedly, Verizon Business (VZ) has launched its first commercially available private 5G network in the U.S. to offer businesses and government departments high-speed indoor or outdoor connectivity. 5G network removes the need for businesses to jostle for speed with others on a public network and assists data-intensive applications that use augmented reality, computer vision, and machine learning with increased productivity.
Managed by Verizon, the private 5G network will keep all cellular traffic on the premises of the customer to increase security, while authorized remote users can still access applications. For the initial deployment, the company is using Corning radios and Ericsson’s core equipment, and would be open to using gear from Nokia and Samsung at a later stage, president Sowmyanarayan Sampath informed. The current networks are built on existing 4G networks to account for forward and backward compatibility for devices.
The telecom giant is seeing a lot of demand from financial institutions to increase the speed of trading flows with 5G, and also warehouses, as they are planning to use robots and autonomous vehicles, Sampath informed.
