As per reports, Disney’s (DIS) Jungle Cruise ride in California and Florida to get a makeover after critics accused the Jungle Cruise of displaying “negative depictions” of some cultures. Disney informed that the riverboat attraction would be updated to “reflect and value the diversity of the world around us.”
The cruise first Launched in 1955 has been accused by critics of having a racist depiction of some non-Western characters in form of cannibals. However, no date for the launch was announced, but the updated ride includes a new storyline and scenes. The entertainment giant also informed in June that its Splash Mountain ride was also being reworked to remove its associations with Black stereotypes in the 1946 film “Song of the South,” on which theme it was based.
“This is not a re-envisioning of the entire attraction. It’s the Jungle Cruise you know and love, with the skippers still leading the way, and at the same time, we’re addressing the negative depictions of ‘natives,'” stated Chris Beatty, an executive with Walt Disney Imagineering.
