As per reports, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have authorized the Pfizer (PFE) vaccine for children aged 5 to 11. Walmart Stores, Inc. (WMT) and Sam’s Club will administer the Pfizer vaccine to eligible children aged 5 to 11 across more than 5,100 pharmacies nationwide, starting this November’s first week. The safety and effectiveness data have been carefully evaluated by FDA and CDC based on strict safety and efficacy standards. For children one-third of the dose used for adolescents and adults was advised.
Some points to be noted:
- Vaccine availability can be reached at Walmart’s digital appointment scheduler. Since the supply may be limited, it is advised to check availability via the scheduler before heading to the pharmacy. Parents and guardians can visit Walmart.com/covidvaccine or samsclub.com/pharmacy/immunizations, to find the nearest COVID-19 vaccine.
- Children need to receive two doses, three weeks apart to be fully vaccinated.
- The side effects in the clinical trial are similar to what’s been seen in adults and other vaccines recommended for children, like a sore arm, tiredness, fever, or headaches.
