Reportedly, Chevron Corporation (CVX) plans to produce a test batch of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and sell it to Delta Air Lines at the Los Angeles International Airport. The initiative is a part of the partnership companies announced with Alphabet Inc-owned Google to track SAF test batch emissions data using cloud-based technology. Delta has promised to replace 10% of its traditional jet fuel with sustainable aviation fuel by the year 2030.
The SAF costs more than traditional jet fuel and is made from feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal waste fat. With this collaboration, Chevron expects to produce the SAF at its El Segundo Refinery for Delta and Google Cloud to build a framework to study and analyze the emission data. The goal of the pilot will be to provide better visibility into data from their project, allowing for greater transparency and improved reporting of SAF emissions.
