AT&T, Verizon To Delay Scheduled 5G Deployment As U.S. Officials Raise Aviation Safety Concerns

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

Reportedly, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg had previously ordered Verizon Communications, Inc. (VZ) and AT&T Communications to delay the planned Jan. 5 introduction of the new 5G wireless service over aviation safety concerns. Today, Bloomberg confirmed that Verizon is now launching the 5G service on Jan. 19, honoring a two-week delay agreement struck with the Federal Aviation Administration Monday as officials work through airline safety concerns.
