Sable Offshore Corp. (NYSE: SOC) has moved from the awkward “pre-revenue restoration project” phase into something much more recognizable to Wall Street: a company selling meaningful volumes of oil, generating operating cash flow, and building momentum into a potentially larger 2027 earnings base. The second-quarter report on Monday was not a polished victory lap—midstream bottlenecks and one-time costs made sure of that—but it offered something potentially more valuable: proof that the Santa Ynez Unit restart is translating into barrels, revenue, and operational traction.
Revenue Arrives, Along With Cash Flow
For Q2 2026, Sable reported $137.1 million in revenue and $9.4 million in positive operating cash flow, its first full quarter of revenue generation and positive cash flow from operations since inception. That is an important inflection point for an asset-restart narrative: the business is no longer merely a presentation deck with handsome geology. Average net sales volumes were roughly 21,000 barrels of oil per day during the quarter. More compelling, however, was the exit rate: Sable left Q2 at approximately 40,000 net barrels per day of oil sales, a 149% increase from the first day of the quarter. July preliminary gross sales were approximately 38,000 barrels per day, and August-to-date gross sales averaged about 42,000 barrels per day through August 9. For investors, this is the central issue: quarterly averages record where a company has been; exit rates can offer a glimpse of where its income statement may be headed.
The Operating Machine Is Gaining RPMs
The restoration of Sable’s Santa Ynez Unit appears to be gathering force. The company averaged 35 producing wells in Q2, with average production of 723 barrels per day per well. By June, approximately 39 wells were online, up 50% from around 26 wells in April. The next operational catalyst is straightforward, at least in oilfield terms—which is to say straightforward until someone needs a permit, a pipeline, or a weather forecast:
- Sable expects all 77 wells at Platforms Harmony and Heritage to be online during Q3 2026.
- Platform Hondo is expected to return in September.
- Five completed perforation additions at Hondo are forecast to add an estimated 600 gross barrels per day each.
- Four additional Hondo perforation additions are planned for early Q4.
If execution remains on track, SOC is not relying solely on higher commodity prices to improve its outlook. It has a company-specific production ramp, well optimization activity, and a platform restart program that could expand volumes independently of the daily mood swings of the Brent market.
A 2027 Setup With More Oil and Less Spending
Management’s updated outlook is particularly constructive because it pairs higher oil weighting with lower expected capital spending. Sable cut the midpoint of its second-half 2026 capital-expenditure guidance by 41% to $85 million, saying the reductions should optimize cash flow and accelerate debt amortization. For full-year 2027, Sable guides to: Metric FY 2027E guidance Gross average daily sales 50,000–55,000 Boe/d Net average daily sales 42,500–47,500 Boe/d Oil mix Approximately 100% Lease operating expense $9–$12 per net Boe Cash G&A $3.50–$6.50 per net Boe Capital expenditures $80–$100 million. Management also increased its expected 2027 oil ratio to roughly 100% from a previous 91% midpoint, reflecting deferred gas-plant capital items and stronger-than-anticipated oil cut from producing wells. That combination is the ingredient investors tend to notice: a higher-value product mix, anticipated lower unit operating costs, and capital requirements that do not appear to rise in lockstep with production. It is the kind of operating leverage that can make a comeback story suddenly look less theatrical and more financial.
Refinancing Buys Time—And Adds Discipline
Sable’s July refinancing removed a near-term maturity concern and extended its principal debt maturity runway to year-end 2028. The new structure includes a $675 million senior secured term loan due December 2028 and $345 million of 6.5% convertible senior notes due July 2031. The company also issued $115 million of common stock at $3.08 per share. The tradeoff is clear. The term loan carries a hefty 15% annual coupon, mandatory amortization, and a quarterly excess-cash-flow sweep. This is not cheap capital; it is capital wearing a tailored suit and charging by the hour. Still, refinancing transforms the discussion from immediate balance-sheet survival to operational delivery. Sable’s Q2 filing indicated that, after the refinancing transactions, management concluded substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern had been alleviated. The company has also introduced Brent collars with $65-per-barrel downside floors across portions of its expected volumes through 2028. The hedges cap some upside, but they also provide a useful degree of cash-flow protection as the production base ramps.
The Bottleneck Is the Opportunity—and the Risk
The biggest near-term variable is not whether Sable can produce oil; it is whether it can move and market the oil at attractive enough economics. Sable incurred $18.5 million in non-recurring demurrage charges during Q2 after California refiners had to adapt to an unexpected influx of Pacific Outer Continental Shelf crude. It also faced temporary sales-throughput constraints around 40,000 gross barrels per day beginning in July, as well as pricing deductions tied partly to crude sulfur content. Yet management expects several possible improvements:
- The short-term throughput constraint is expected to begin easing in the back half of August.
- California refiners are expected to adjust supply slates beginning in September, accepting more Santa Ynez barrels and fewer imported barrels.
- Platform Hondo’s lower-sulfur oil could normalize field-wide sulfur content after its expected September restart.
- Waterborne marketing alternatives and chemical treatment options could add future flexibility, although neither benefit is included in current guidance.
That last point matters. The company’s 2027 guidance explicitly excludes anticipated benefits from waterborne marketing, chemical treatments, and broader California infrastructure improvements. If these measures work, they represent potential upside rather than a number already baked into management’s base case.
Why SOC Could Be Investor Magnetic
The bullish case for Sable Offshore stock is ultimately a simple one: the market is watching an operational restart turn into a scaling oil business. SOC now has tangible revenue, positive operating cash flow, rapidly improving sales volumes, a longer debt-maturity runway, and a defined path toward 42,500–47,500 net Boe/d in 2027. The most important catalysts—Platform Hondo’s restart, fuller utilization of Harmony and Heritage, improved refinery intake, reduced transportation friction, and high-return well optimization—are visible and measurable. The risks remain substantial. SOC carries significant leverage, faces California-specific regulatory and logistical complexity, has experienced dilution, and must prove that improved oil sales volumes translate into durable cash flow after marketing deductions, interest costs, and mandatory debt repayment. The company’s actual results may differ materially from its operational and financial outlook. But that is precisely why the story may appeal to risk-tolerant energy investors: it is not a mature, fully valued producer trying to find a fresh adjective for “steady.” It is a high-beta restoration story with production ramping, costs potentially falling, and multiple operational levers still available. In Wall Street’s preferred dialect, that is called optionality. In plain English, it means SOC could have more than one way to surprise to the upside.
