Will Georgia’s Abortion Law “Force” Disney To Stop Filming In The State?

By John Heerdink LinkedIn

As per Reuters report, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company (DIS), informed all that the implementation of the abortion law in the State by Georgia’s Republican governor would make filming in the state “Very Difficult”. The law restricts abortion of a well-formed six weeks old fetus with a heartbeat. The law is currently due to come in to effect beginning January 1st, 2020.

In recent history, Disney has filmed its blockbusters like “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Endgame,” in Georgia. When inquired about Disney’s plan to continue working in the State after the implementation of the law, Iger stated “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”, “I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” he expressed as per reports.

Georgia’s tax credit had attracted production companies to work in the State, generating 92,000 jobs with 455 productions in 2018, as per Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). If Disney decided to stop filming in Georgia it could be a huge blow to the state’s production of jobs.
