Walmart & CVS Pledge to Keep Multicultural Beauty Products Out Of Locked Cabinets

Reportedly, CVS Health Corp along with Walmart Stores, Inc. (WMT) announced to discontinue personal and beauty care products fashioned for people of color in locked display cases after the tradition drew criticism following the death of African American George Floyd last month due to police brutality and racial inequality. CVS had expanded its selection of products in the category of textured hair and color cosmetics categories by 35% over the last year for communities of color.

“We have a firm-nondiscrimination policy that applies to all aspects of our business and our product protection measures have never been based on the race or ethnicity of our customers,” stated CVS in an emailed statement on Friday.

Reportedly, Walmart customers complained about the practice of locking up items catering to people of color was discriminatory, urging the change in policy. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. (WBA) also announced to ensure that multicultural hair care and beauty products are not stored behind locked cases, as per reports.
