As per reports, Verizon is set to close Fios1 News, one of the two hyperlocal cable-news channels operational in New York City’s metro area. The shut-down will also cause the end of its 10-year contract with New York’s Regional News Network, Rye Brook.
Fios1 was first introduced by Verizon 10 years ago in Long Island and northern New Jersey. The channel featured local communities, including high school sports, traffic, local stories, and weather.
With this move an others Verizon continues with its efforts to create healthier balance sheet and further invest in its launch of its 5G Ultra Wideband network.
