Reportedly, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (UNH) is set to partner with the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC), the oldest and largest group of historically black colleges and universities in a five-year collaboration worth $8.25 million to prepare students in the growing market for data analytics experts. The program is expected to generate more than 2.7 million job opportunities by 2020, as reported in a national study.

AUCC along with its members Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine and Spelman College set to launch AUCC Data Science Initiative, offering technical guidance to students aiming to specialize in data science or analysis providing them with a competitive edge at the time of placement. AUCC along with its community of 9,000 students will help Data Science Initiative reach a broad range of scholars and will infuse students with advanced data analytics techniques along with certificate programs on data analytics and data science.

“The UnitedHealth Group funding will help to establish the base for this broad initiative, including hiring an accomplished director. Additionally, through UnitedHealth Group internships, guest lectures, faculty development opportunities, and other joint efforts, our students will greatly benefit from this partnership with the World’s largest managed health care company. We are grateful for UnitedHealth Group’s anchor investment in our vision, and we are in active conversations with other potential partners to assist us in other aspects of our plan.” stated Todd Greene, AUCC Executive Director.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to support this initiative because it aligns with our desire to ensure our workforce for the future is diverse and possesses the skills needed to propel our company for continued success,” stated David S. Wichmann, CEO of UnitedHealth Group.

The initiative marks a significant input in creating a healthy workforce especially for minority communities by UnitedHealth Group. The health care company has nearly invested more than $20 million for 2,600 scholarships for students willing to pursue careers as primary health care providers.
