The Walmart Foundation Backs Organizations Fighting For Hunger Crunch In Texas

Recently, the Walmart Foundation announced $4 million in grants to organizations working to reduce the hunger crisis in Texas where more than 4 million people battle with hunger, including 1.6 million children, as per Feeding America. Organizations Brighter Bites and Baylor University’s Texas Hunger Initiative to receive $1.3 million and $2,600,000 respectively in a grant from Walmart Foundation in assistance. Brighter Bites, a Houston based non-profit concentrates on improving access to fresh fruits and vegetables in combination with nutrition education to fight obesity and encourage improved health for low-income children and families. Walmart’s contribution will help Brighter Bites in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, as well as other markets in the U.S. The Texas Hunger Initiative, a Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty is a project to help build strategies to end the hunger crisis through education, awareness, and overall community development. The grant will support access to healthy food through direct outreach, research, policy engagement, and will strengthen pilot community-based programs.
