The Home Depot To Assist Communities Dealing With Hurricane Laura On The Gulf Coast

By John F. Heerdink, Jr.

As per reports, The Home Depot, Inc. (HD) will turn on its Hurricane Command Center to support communities preparing for the Hurricane Laura approaching toward the Gulf Coast. The Hurricane Command Center works virtually this time, keeping safety and social distancing in mind. The associates from the company’s operations unit, merchandising, and supply chain teams are working to bring truckloads of products to stores in Texas and Louisiana. More than 230 trucks have reached the area with essentials like water tarps, generators, batteries, and flashlights.

“Our associates are vital to helping our communities brace for this approaching storm and we’re extremely grateful for their hard work,” “We’ll continue to hope for minimal impact from this storm as we prioritize the safety of our associates and customers in this active hurricane season.” stated Hector Padilla, president of the Southern Division of The Home Depot.

The Home Depot Foundation is partnering with national nonprofit partners including Convoy of Hope, Team Rubicon, All Hands and Hearts, Operation Blessing, and ToolBank Disaster Service. The foundation is working with its non-profit partners ahead of disaster season to keep warehouses equipped enough with emergency supplies to be used in impacted communities swiftly.

Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation stated, “Our thoughts are with the communities that may be impacted by this storm. We’re working closely with our nonprofit partners to identify critical needs so we can provide immediate support. In addition to financial support, our Team Depot associate volunteers will work alongside our disaster relief partners to assist the people and areas impacted.”

More than 50 Home Depot stores in the areas could witness the impacts from Hurricane Laura and stores will remain open as long as it’s safe.
