NIKE, Inc. (NIKE) is the world’s top designer, marketer, and distributor of athletic footwear, equipment, apparel, and accessories. The Beaverton, Oregon based company offers products for a wide variety of sports and fitness activities.
As per reports, Nike has recently come forward for the benefit of its sponsored athletes and increased the performance waiver period from 12 months to 18 months for pregnant athletes. In a letter posted on Social Media, the company informed that the 18 month period to begin from eight months before the athlete’s due date.
“Female athletes and their representatives will begin receiving written confirmation reaffirming Nike’s official pregnancy policy for elite athletes,” “In addition to our 2018 policy standardizing our approach across all sports to ensure no female athlete is adversely impacted financially for pregnancy, the policy has now been expanded to cover 18 months.” the company said in a statement.
Recently, Nike faced criticism after runners, including six-time Olympic champion and former Nike runner Allyson Felix felt there wasn’t enough of maternal benefits given to them by the sports companies.
Nike assured “Moving forward, our contracts for female athletes will include written terms that reinforce our policy”, as reported on its website.
