Former Ebay Chief John Donahoe Set To Take Over As CEO of Nike

NIKE, Inc. (NIKE) is the world’s top designer, marketer, and distributor of athletic footwear, equipment, apparel, and accessories. The Beaverton, Oregon based company offers products for a wide variety of sports and fitness activities.

Reportedly, John Donahoe, a member of Nike’s board since 2014 is set to replace its long-time chief executive officer Mark Parker next year. Parker had joined Nike in 1979 as one of its first footwear designers and held several roles during his tenure at the company.

Donahoe is thought to focus on strengthening Nike’s online strategy was previously working with cloud computing firm ServiceNow where he served as CEO for more than four years and prior to which he led online retailer eBay Inc for seven years.

The decision comes after Nike shut down its Oregon Project training group after a four-year ban by U.S. Anti-Doping Agency was imposed on the center’s founder and coach Alberto Salazar. No reason for Parker’s exit from the position was reported by the company. Parker to take position as Nike’s executive chairman and continue to lead the board after Donahoe takes over as CEO.

One of John’s previous positions was acting as President and CEO of eBay where he oversaw the eBay, PayPal and eBay Enterprise businesses. During his tenure, eBay Inc’s revenues more than doubled to $18B and market value increased over 250% to $80B. eBay and PayPal were early innovators in mobile commerce and payments, enabling almost 20% of global digital commerce. In mid-2015, eBay and PayPal separated into two independent publically traded companies
