Election Day Brings Green, Green & More Green

The rebound continued again today and even picked up more momentum as it ended pretty much all green in the markets on election day. Many investors seemed to embrace the investing attitude that the world or at least the markets would not implode no matter which candidate won and it might even continue to rise to new levels once the uncertainty is removed.

In fact, the little guys on the Russell 2000 had a full head of steam ending at 1,614.30 jumping 2.91% while the S&P 500 closed at 3,369.16 (+1.78%), the Dow 30 closed at 27,480.03 (+2.06%) & the tech heavy Nasdaq closed at 11,160.57 (+1.85%). 

10 of eleven S&P 500 sectors finished in the green with industrials sector jumping 2.9% to lead the day and the energy sector lost .8% as the lone hold out despite oil prices rising 2.3% ending at $37.62/bbl.

The macroeconomic schedule produced the factory orders report for manufactured goods which confirmed a rise by 1.1% month/month in September, a rise for the fifth consecutive month.

The FAANGs also joined the green parade today and ended up across the board as follows:  Apple (AAPL) ($110.44, +1.54%), Amazon (AMZN) ($3,048.41, +1.46%), Alphabet (GOOG) ($1,650.21, +1.49%), Facebook (FB) ($265.30, +1.51%) & Netflix (NFLX) closed at $487.22/share up .64%.

EV manufacturer Tesla (TSLA) closed at $423.90/share +5.84%, nearly 10% rise in the last 2 days & Chinese EV concern NIO Limited (NIO) closed at $35.50/share popping up another 6.54% after establishing a new all-time high of $35.87 today. Leading provider of zero emission hydrogen engines and fueling solutions, Plug Power (PLUG), closed $16.95/share up 9.57% after pulling back to the $12 range last week and prior to its earnings release which is due Nov, 9, 2020. 

Software and hardware provider for network solutions  sector, Arista Networks (ANET), closed at $249.49, +15.4% after it beat Wall Street’s earnings estimates and added positive guidance.

Minneapolis based Inspire Medical Systems (INSP) closed at $160.50/share up 31.83% today after reporting Q3 2020 financial results highlighted by a 72% jump n revenues q/q last year.

Precious metals rose again today. Gold closed at $1,912(+15) while silver closed at $24.31/oz (+.17). North American silver and gold producer Hecla Mining Company (HL) closed at $5.09/share (+4.95%). HL’s 52-week range is $1.40 – $6.79. Barrick Gold Corporation (GOLD) closed at $27.78/share up 2.28%. 

The 2-yr US treasury yield closed even at .16% while the 10-yr yield rose 3 basis points to end at .88%. The U.S. Dollar Index weakened closing at 93.51.

Tomorrow’s macroeconomic calendar will deliver the ISM Non-Manufacturing Index report for October, the ADP Employment Change Report for October, the Trade Balance Report for September, & the weekly MBA Mortgage Applications Index report.

  • Atossa Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ATOS) closed at $1.58/share up +5.33% on the day.  
    • Atossa Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATOS), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company seeking to discover and develop innovative medicines in areas of significant unmet medical need with a current focus on breast cancer and COVID-19, recently announced it has now completed enrollment in its Phase 1 clinical study using Atossa’s proprietary drug candidate AT-301 administered by nasal spray. “Completing enrollment is a significant milestone and comes at a time when we are seeing a new wave if infections in certain geographies and an increased focus on developing therapies to treat COVID-19,” commented Steven Quay, M.D., Ph.D., Atossa’s President and CEO. “While the virus presents significant danger overall, the vast majority of people testing positive for COVID-19 do not require hospitalization and instead quarantine at home while they manage their symptoms and attempt not to infect those around them.   • Fate Therapeutics, Inc. (FATE) closed at $45.57/share +3.71% today.
    • Fate is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of programmed cellular immunotherapies for cancer and immune disorders.

    • On October 15th, FATE announced that five abstracts for the Company’s induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) product platform were accepted for presentation at the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) annual meeting being held virtually from November 9-14, 2020. Learn more. 
  • Shares of NeuBase Therapeutics (NBSE) closed at $7.98/share +5% after recently reaching a new 52-week high recently of $11.78/share.
    • NeuBase is developing the next generation of gene silencing therapies with its flexible, highly specific synthetic antisense oligonucleotides. The proprietary NeuBase peptide-nucleic acid (PNA) antisense oligonucleotide (PATrOL™) platform allows for the rapid development of targeted drugs, increasing the treatment opportunities for the hundreds of millions of people affected by rare genetic diseases, including those that can only be treated through accessing of secondary RNA structures.     • RBC Capital Markets recently initiated coverage of NBSE with an Outperform, Speculative Risk rating & a $16 price target. 
  • Shares of INVO Bioscience (INVO) closed at $3.79/share, +1.37%.
    • INVO is a medical device company focused on creating alternative treatments for patients diagnosed with infertility and developers of INVOcell®, the world’s only in vivo Intravaginal Culture System. Economic Reports

  • On Monday we received the ISM Manufacturing Index for October which came in at 59.3% surprisingly well above the expansion level. The total construction spending report also confirmed a move higher by .3% month/month in September while total private construction spending also jumped .9% month/month but total public construction spending decrease by 1.7%.
  • On Tuesday, the factory orders report for manufactured goods which confirmed a rise by 1.1% month/month in September, a rise for the fifth consecutive month.
