Coca-Cola Takes Another Step Toward A World Without Waste Goal in Agreement With Ioniqa Technologies
- Published Jan 10, 2019
Dow 30 Component, The Coca-Cola Company (KO), is the largest total beverage company in the world. It offers 500 plus brands in over 200 countries and is committed to reducing sugar in its drinks and providing new and diverse drinks to people everywhere. Coca-Cola is once again working towards it’s global vision “World Without Waste” in its recent investment with Ioniqa Technologies, a company out of The Netherlands. The agreement between the two companies will be a loan extended to Ioniqa Technologies to further the development of the Dutch company’s proprietary technology to produce high-grade, recycled PET content from hard-to-recycle PET waste. Coca-Cola hopes to accelerate the development so that it can employ the high-grade recycled content PET for use in its own bottles. Coca-Cola hopes to have its packaging made of at least 50% recycled materials by the year 2030. Ioniqa’s proprietary recycling technology takes hard-to-recycle PET-containing wast like colored bottles and converts it into purified polymer building blocks that can then be re-formed into high-quality PET.
