Reportedly, tech giant Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) has entered a deal with Britain’s biggest telecoms group BT for its new service built to speed up internet video traffic through its networks to meet the growing demand for video streaming driven by the pandemic.
The new service is developed in collaboration with a U.S. cloud platform company Qwilt, to assist telecom operators to work on their content delivery infrastructure, increase streaming quality, reduce cost, and have more control over content flows and add a revenue source.
Video streaming majors like Netflix, Alphabet Inc’s YouTube, Disney+, and Amazon’s Prime video service have been facing a surge in usage amid the pandemic accounting for the majority of the internet’s traffic volume. Also, the European Union industry chief Thierry Breton had asked the streaming giants to lower video streaming quality to prevent any internet gridlock.
“Streaming video may be the killer app for the internet, but it doesn’t have to kill the internet,” stated Jonathan Davidson, Senior Vice President at Cisco.
