By John F. Heerdink, Jr.
Dow 30 component Boeing (NYSE: BA)  is the world’s largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems.  A top U.S. exporter, the company supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in 150 countries. Boeing products and tailored services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, weapons, electronic and defense systems, launch systems, advanced information and communication systems, and performance-based logistics and training. Denis Muilenburg, President and CEO of Boeing, was named the Aviation Week 2018 person of the year. His choosing for this award came as a result of his major contract wins, big acquisitions, and supply-chain overhaul efforts with Boeing. The editors of Aviation week recognize someone in the world of aviation and aerospace for the yearly award based off their impact on the industry. Since 2015 when Muilenburg took over the role of president and CEO of Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace manufacturer, he has played a major role in helping the company take a larger share of the commercial aircraft industry from Airbus, as well as rebuild Boeing’s faltering defense business. One of Muilenburg’s major highlights in this role was winning the competition for the new U.S. Air Force T-Xtrainer jet, which is projected to generate $9 billion in future revenue.
